In every fifth company attending the New Year corporate party was compulsory

According to a survey done by the recruitment company Antal Russia, 74% of employers are planning to organize an office party for their employees to celebrate the New Year. Notably, 22% of the respondents state that in their company it is compulsory to attend the New Year party.

Every fourth company has celebrated the New Year as early as in the beginning of December. The majority of employers are planning the party, as usual, for the second half of December. Some, however, will hold the New Year party as late as in January.

In most companies, the budget for the party is comparable with that of last year. Only 20% of the respondents are going to increase their expenditure on festivities this year, while 12%, on the contrary, are planning to cut the party budget.

Many companies have already selected the theme for the party. Mostly often, the New Year will be celebrated in a sports style and will be related to football, or alternatively office workers will reminisce about the 90s. Other ideas for New Year parties include "Cities and Countries", "Cooking Battle", "Ball", "New Year Fairy Tale", and "Rock-n-Roll".

"Employers choose themes and times for the corporate party depending on the available budget. As for time, many companies prefer to postpone the party until January because this will help them buy more goodies for the employees and treat them to presents while keeping within the same budget.

Large corporations can afford going out to the country and arranging the event outdoors. One of the themes that are growing in popularity is Fort Boyard which is rather easy to organize in the countryside.

For the companies which have decided to hold the party in a restaurant, themes related to famous films and TV series – like Bondiana – remain popular.

At such a party, it's customary to play Secret Santa and reward the best employees with nice gifts.

Also, there is a recent trend towards making donations to a charity or a children's home instead of buying gifts for clients and employees. In this case, marketing departments send out an official New Year newsletter saying that each client or employee has contributed to making the day special for those who need this the most" – commented Marina Nedozhdy, Senior Consultant, Antal Russia.
